Victorian policewoman left with suspected concussion after mask-dodger 'attacked her'

The union representing Victoria Police officers has slammed an alleged attack on a 26-year-old constable.
The alleged assault took place near Bayside Shopping Centre in Frankston on Monday.
The 26-year-old policewoman and a colleague approached a woman and asked why she was not wearing a face mask as per strict coronavirus measures in place in Victoria.
The woman, 38, allegedly lashed out and pushed the policewoman to the ground, before repeatedly hitting her head into the pavement.
She was restrained and arrested and is now facing several charges including assaulting a police officer and refusing to state her name and address.
The Police Association Victoria shared a photo of the constable and said the incident highlighted the dangers police officers face in the pandemic.
“This 26-year-old Constable returned to the station concussed and missing a clump of hair,” it said.
“Because she asked someone to wear a mask.
“She and many others are sacrificing their safety for our safety.”
The policewoman received significant head injuries was taken to Frankston Hospital for treatment.
“That behaviour is just totally unacceptable,” Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said.
“That’s someone who thinks they’re above the law.”
The woman was granted bail and will face court at a later date.
